Saturday SAT test dates
Most students take the SAT on a Saturday, during the week through an in-school test, or both.
The SAT is offered on Saturday mornings seven times during the year, mostly in the spring and the fall.
Registration deadlines are about a month before the test date. If you’ve missed this deadline, don’t worry — late registration (for an extra fee) is still available until about 10 days before the test date. This is also the deadline to make changes or cancellations for your registration.
Starting in March 2024, the SAT will be completely digital and adaptive. Students will need to bring their own laptop to the testing center. Students who need to borrow a device from College Board will need to register and request their device at least 30 days before the test date, which is before the registration deadline.
2023–2024 test dates & deadlines
SAT test date | Registration deadline | Late registration deadline |
---|---|---|
August 26 | July 28 | August 15 |

To register for the SAT you want, you’ll need to make an account with the College Board, the company who makes and administers the SAT.
You can always confirm the SAT test dates and registration deadlines on the official College Board site.
Sunday SAT test dates
Students whose religion doesn’t allow testing on Saturdays may be able to take the SAT on the Sunday following the Saturday test date. Students will need a letter from their official religious leader and will need to make an official request to the College Board. Read more about the process for requesting a Sunday test date for the SAT here.
In-School SAT test dates
Many students may also be able to take the SAT during the school day through their school — check with your school’s guidance counselor to see if this is offered.
(Most schools offer either the SAT or the ACT, the other test used for college admissions in the US. This tends to vary on a state-by-state basis.)
In the US, students are most likely to have an in-school SAT offered in the spring of their junior year.
In the 2023–2024 school year, in-school SAT testing will be possible on two dates in the fall. In the spring, the SAT will be offered digitally and can occur on any day between March 4 and April 2, 2024.
2023–2024 school-day test dates & deadlines
SAT test date | Registration deadline (confirm with school) |
---|---|
October 11 | September 13 |
October 26 | September 22 |
March 4 – April 2 | Check with school |
Typically registration for an in-school SAT test is done through the student’s school, and is sometimes done automatically for all students. Check with your school’s guidance counselor for any questions about the registration process.
SAT dates for international students
The SAT test dates for international students are the same as for students testing within the US, but the deadlines are different.

Deadlines for SAT testing accommodations
Students with learning differences (like ADHD or autism) or physical differences (like visual or hearing impairment) can request special accommodations on the SAT.
Some of the most common testing accommodations for the SAT are extra time on the test or additional breaks. Students may also be able to test in a private room with fewer distractions.
The College Board explains the entire process for requesting testing accommodations here.
An Individualized Education Plan (IEP), 504 plan, or doctor's note is usually not enough on its own. Students and families will have to make an official request to the College Board. Students and families can either work with the SSD coordinator at their school (usually an easier process) or request accommodations direction from the College Board.
The approval process for accommodations can take up to 7 weeks, so there is an earlier registration deadline for students who are requesting accommodations:
2023–2024 Saturday SAT testing accommodation deadlines
SAT test date | Deadline for accommodations request & documentation |
---|---|
August 26 | July 7 |
October 7 | August 18 |
November 4 | September 15 |
December 2 | October 13 |
March 9 | January 19 |

June 1 | April 12 |
2023–2024 school-day SAT testing accommodation deadlines
SAT test date | Deadline for accommodations request & documentation |
---|---|
October 11 | August 22 |
October 26 | September 6 |
week March 4–8 | January 16 |
week March 11–15 | January 22 |
week March 18–22 | January 29 |
week March 25–29 | February 5 |
week April 1–5 | February 12 |
week April 8–12 | February 19 |
week April 15–19 | February 26 |
week April 22–26 | March 4 |
If you have missed these deadline but are still in time for the regular or late registration deadlines, you should submit the request for accommodations as soon as possible. It may be too late for the College Board to process the request, and accommodations may not be approved or in place by test day — but if you’re lucky, they’ll be able to make the accommodations even after the deadline.
Students with temporary impairments due to injury or illness can also request special accommodations with letters from their doctor, teacher, and a school official. Read more about the process on the College Board site here.

Big changes coming to the SAT in 2024
One thing to note is that the SAT will be changing significantly in 2024!
Starting with the March 2024 test, the SAT will be in a completely different style. The December SAT will be the last date when it’s possible to take the current SAT.
The new SAT will be entirely digital, but it’s just not the same test as before on a computer. The new test will be adaptive, meaning that the questions will get easier or harder to adjust to the level of the student.
The structure of the test will also be different, and the content of the questions. Some types of questions are completely eliminated, and other types of questions are totally new!
(The new Digital SAT was already introduced for international students in March 2023. Whether it’s fair or not, these students are being used as guinea pigs by the College Board!)
You can read more about these big changes to the SAT here. I’ve already been helping students prepare for the new Digital SAT, often at the same time as they prep for the current SAT.
Because there will be lots of upheaval when the changes happen in 2024, SAT scores will be more unpredictable for a little while.
My advice to students taking the test during the 2023–2024 school year is to take both the current SAT this fall before it changes and the new Digital SAT next spring.
Students may score much more highly on one version or the other — so it makes sense to get scores for both tests and then submit the higher score to colleges.
For expert help preparing for either the current SAT or the new Digital SAT, reach out to me at info@ivybloomacademics.com or sign up directly here. I work with students exclusively one-on-one, because I’ve found that students can learn much more effectively when every session is perfectly tailored to their individual strengths and weaknesses.
